After graduation I moved to CA, to live with my sister, (also an HPHS graduate) where I worked in banking for 4 years, then met my husband, Roger, who was in the Air Force. We married in '58 and he was sent to Alaska within 3 months. Still a territory, it was an exciting place to be, and we enjoyed the beautiful outdoors, and the fellowship of a great church family. Our first child, Dave, was born there, and we quickly adjusted to parenting in our one-room "cabin-style" home. With living expenses high there, I soon returned to work, this time with the Federal Aviation Agency. After 1 1/2 years we returned to CA, where we settled in Orange County, near Roger's family. He returned to college and worked in the field of architecture for the next 40 years. After our daughter, Sherry, was born, I worked in the school district for several years, then had our third child, Shawn. I enjoyed staying home for a few years, and was very involved in working with children at our church. I then returned to college and received an Adult Teaching Credential, and worked in that area for a while, as well as interior design. For the last 22 years I have worked on staff at three churches, directing children's ministries. I attended Bible College a few years ago, and received a ministerial degree, and continue to work in that field, along with part-time work as a Creative Memories consultant (scrapbooking), and enjoy "semi-retirement" activities with my husband, along with charitable work for our area churches, and fund-raising for Pt. Loma Nazarene University, where our daughter graduated from, and grand-daughter now attends. Over the years we have enjoyed water-skiing, as a family, and several trips to Europe to visit Sherry and her husband, who lived there for 8 years. I am thankful for a long and succesful marriage, and our three wonderful children, with challenging careers (from international aerospace to acoustical design for churches and alternative medicine), who have brought much joy and excitement into our lives. We are now blessed with 3 grand-children, Laura, Alissa and Kieren, ages 19 to 7, who have added a new dimension of joy to our lives. I have enjoyed reading the testimonials of fellow classmates who have written, and look forward to continued messages. Bob Nielsen Current Location: Montgomery, Texas Email Address: NielsenR@msn.com Following BS (Chemistry) from Rutgers, I received PhD (Inorganic Chemistry) from University of Florida and joined Shell Development Company in California (Shell Oil Company's research arm). After a stint in Shell Chemical Company Head Office (NYC), I worked in catalysis research in Houston until I retired to the Lake Conroe area in 1990. All four children live in the Montgomery-Houston area, as does my mother in assisted living. I spend most of my time on projects (home building, car building) and consulting, while my wife (Linda) still works as a nurse in ICU (which has allowed us to spend up to three months at a time on travel assignments in Colorado and California). We met the first week of college. We have been happily married for almost 46 years. We have two sons, two daughter in laws, and six grandchildren. I retired from full time math and science teaching in 2000. Pete is retired too and runs a small Macintosh business. We love travel and visit our children in Raleigh, NC and Morris, MN. I am very involved in First Unitarian Society in Newton. I've been on most committees and have been a lay minister since its beginning. I do volunteer work in the community and in Boston. I follow the exercise program in Miriam Nelson's " Strong Women Stay Young". I have a group of friends who life arm and leg weights MWF. I love to walk , read and garden. Two kids - Stephen (an artistic woodturner in Maine) and Suzanne (a homemaker in Charlotte, NC). Three grandkids - Hunter and Heath Killman and Clark Gleasner. We live on Lake Norman (just north of Charlotte, NC) - love to waterski, swim, hang out in the boat. I am a travel writer; Bill is a travel photographer. We travel the world and work together to produce books (30 so far), articles for magazines and newspaper travel pages. My kids' books (The Strange and Terrible Adventures of Popoki, the Hawaiian Cat and Popoki's Incredible Adventure at the Volcano) are best sellers in the Hawaiian Islands where we lived in the 70s. My travel guide to Florida (Florida Off the Beaten Path) is in its 7th edition. We've had a fantastic life together and have no intention of retiring. I opened my own consulting business and slowly cut the time worked until I decided it wasn't fun anymore in 2002. We have three married daughters and numerous grandchildren ranging in age from 17 to 4 years old. Our two older daughters live in Long Island, New York and our youngest daughter moved to Israel many years ago. We live in Highland Park part of the year and in Jerusalem, Israel part of the year. This allows us to spend time with all of the children and grandchildren. I worked for Bristol-Meyers Squibb for 20 years. First as a researcher and then as a project manager. Since my retirement five years ago, we have been spending part of the year in Israel and part of the year in New Jersey. We love being retired as it affords us the opportunity to travel, take classes and enjoy our family. I still try to keep active by playing tennis and working out in the gym. I'm not playing any baseball or basketball anymore except for an occasional game with my grandchildren.In Jerusalem, I do a lot of walking. It's a very interesting city and when you walk you see things you don't notice when you are driving. Most of my family still lives in the HP area. My father and two sisters live in HP. The overriding passion is to help all of us to experience Wellness and Longevity! The whole realm of Alternative Health is so exciting! I live atop the Sourland Mtn., deep in the woods, where I spend much of my spare time digging in the dirt and pulling weeds. Does anyone remember Mrs. Dorsey and her "Nature Study" class back when we were in Jr.Hi? I used to spend hours in the woods collecting flowers for our Spring wildflower notebook. Some things/people never really change. I still love to sing .........and at this time in my life sing mostly Praise and Worship music. Life for me has also been a continual Spiritual quest............which has yielded a great sense of peace and love.
